Flow State is a period and cycle tracking app built with privacy as a core principle. Your health data stays on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit your cycle, symptom, mood, or note data to any server.
The one exception is anonymous crash reports (see “Crash reporting” below), which never include health data and can be turned off in Settings.
Flow State stores the following data locally on your device:
All of this data is stored on your device using local storage. It is never uploaded to our servers because we do not operate any servers. Labels you attach to gaps in your cycle history — including sensitive labels like "pregnancy" — never leave your device.
Because your data lives only on your device, the privacy of that data depends on the security of your device. Data stored on any phone can potentially be extracted by someone with physical access to your unlocked device — this is true of all apps, not just Flow State. We strongly recommend keeping your phone secured with a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID, and keeping your device software up to date. We are working on additional in-app protections (like an app lock and device-side encryption of the most sensitive fields) for a future update.
If you enable "Sync with Apple Health" in Settings, Flow State will:
This sync happens directly between the app and Apple Health on your device. No health data passes through our servers. You can disable this sync at any time in Settings.
If you enable "Sync with Health Connect" in Settings, Flow State will:
This sync happens directly between the app and Health Connect on your device. No health data passes through our servers. You can disable this sync at any time in Settings.
If you enable period reminders, the app uses your device's local notification system to alert you before a predicted period. Notification scheduling happens entirely on your device. No notification data is sent to external services.
To help us find and fix bugs, Flow State sends anonymous crash reports to Sentry, a third-party error monitoring service. These reports contain:
Crash reports never contain your period dates, flow data, symptoms, moods, notes, gap labels, or any other health information. Sentry does not receive your name, email, or any account identifier (Flow State has no accounts).
Crash reporting is on by default and can be turned off at any time under Settings → Privacy → Crash Reporting. With it off, no data is sent to Sentry.
A note on startup behavior: Crash reporting initializes when the app launches, before your saved preference is loaded (a fraction of a second). If you've turned it off, the app disables it as soon as your preference loads. In the rare event of a crash during that startup window, the report would still contain only the technical information listed above — never your cycle, symptom, mood, note, or any other health data.
In addition, the app contacts Expo's update servers on launch to check for app updates. This check sends only your app version and device platform — no health data, no personal information — and is standard for apps built with Expo.
The Essentials tab contains links to products on Amazon and other retailers. These are affiliate links — if you purchase a product through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Clicking a link opens your device's web browser. We do not track your browsing activity or purchases.
You can export your data at any time from Settings:
Exported files are created on your device and shared using your device's native share sheet. We never see or store these files.
You can delete all your data at any time from Settings > Delete All Data. This permanently removes all logged data and resets the app. Since no data is stored on our servers, deletion is immediate and complete.
Flow State does not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not integrate with any third-party SDKs that collect your health or cycle data.
The third-party integrations we do use are:
Flow State is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version at this URL and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
